Visiting Chinese Students Spent 2 Weeks in SCV

Click here to see Our Students' Message to Visitors

Middle school students from Shanghai and Zhengzhou, China, will call Santa Clarita Valley “home” for the next two weeks starting Wednesday, Jan. 15.

During their winter-break visit, sponsored by the nonprofit SCV Chinese School’s International Exchange Foundation, the eight students will live with host families while learning about the American education process and life.

Students will attend classes at the Albert Einstein Academy, participate in lectures and community services, meet with Hart District Superintendent Rob Challinor, Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste and a Superior Court judge, and visit colleges and entertainment centers in the greater Los Angeles area.

The unique program focuses on learning through participation and service. Students become part of the process they see in America in a small but meaningful way. The delegates will form teams with students at Einstein on research projects and present their findings in a public forum before returning to China.

On Sunday, Jan. 26, the visitors will also join the SCV Chinese School to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Horse. The event is open to the public.

About Us

SCV Chinese School was established on Sept. 27, 2009.  We started with about 20 students and a five members staff at a rented tutoring place.  The majority of students were from Chinese families.

Our programs were well received by the SCV community and news soon spread about this unique school.  A few weeks later, some 40 kids were enrolled.  By Spring 2010, Chinese school passed the 150-student mark.  Most students no longer have a Chinese family connection.  Our school  moved to its current location at the Albert Einstein Academy High School in Spring 2011.

A year later, the SCV Chinese School counts about 200 students as we have expanded programs and formed partnerships with two local charter schools.  Our staff has also grow to a team of highly educated teachers, back-up teachers and administrators.

Our greatest asset is our highly qualified bilingual staff members.  With their endless efforts, dedication and professionalism, in 2013, SCV Chinese was approved by IRS as a 501(c) Exempt nonprofit organization, granted a Six Year Full Accreditation by WASC the longest possible, and approved to offer High School Credit Classes by the William Hart High School District.

Today, more than one thousand students study Chinese in numerous Public, Charter and Private schools throughout the Santa Clarita Valley all because of the SCV Chinese School.  We set out to build a first class program to empower all SCV students to become future global leaders. We collaborated with districts, schools and the nonprofit community, opened enrichment programs before, after school and on weekend at numerous sites, and established Hart District approved high school credit courses which have also been approved for UC A-G listing meeting college admission requirements.
